Fiona Hugues is one of New Zealand’s most versatile stylists – she is a skilled cook and art director and was named one of the Top 50 Women in Food & Drink 2024 and Editorial Food-stylist of the Year at the NZ Food Media Awards 2019.
She has been shortlisted for Foodstylist of the Year in the International Food Photography Awards in LONDON three times consecutively, in 2019, 2020 and again in 2021 and has recently won a gold & silver medal in the 2021 Le Prix de la Photographie de Paris (PX3) FRANCE and a gold award in the 2022 IPA awards for her own photographs of food she created & styled.
Her work spans interior, garden & furniture design, food & recipe development, fashion, product development, art direction, photography, event theming & brand creation. With a career of more than twenty years freelancing in the creative industry, her passion for good food & artistic experience with various creative facets showcase her unique signature style.
Total concept creation from development of the idea, to naming, design of the interiors and all necessary brand collateral is her forte. The successful COUNTRY PROVIDORE store in Hamilton, the popular DAISY CHANG restaurant, sister bar PIGGY & newly opened DESPENSA eatery in East Auckland being among her favourite total creative projects.
The Bug Project she created in collaboration with photographer Manja Wachsmuth has won a slew of international awards for the team and was shown in Denmark as part of the FOTODAGE VIBORG, Status 19 Exhibition, part of the Copenhagen Photo Festival. The series of food images featuring insects won a C2A Creative Communication Award USA, gold at Le Prix de la Photographie de Paris (PX3) FRANCE 2020, one of the most prestigious photographic competitions in Europe and first place in the IPA International Photography Awards LONDON among other accolades.
Fiona is a freelance interior trends columnist, a professional member of the NZ Food Writers Guild, creates & photographs content for various publications.
She has coincidentally created, cooked and styled food for seventeen magazine cover images to date.
